Access Control Systems

Every access point. Every credential type. Every security level.

Virtual Bridge delivers the complete spectrum of access control technology — from standard card reader door entry to multi-factor biometric verification, vehicle access management, visitor systems, and enterprise platforms managing security across multiple sites from a single management console.

Card & RFID Access Systems
Proximity and smart card access control — the most widely deployed access technology in the GCC. HID, Mifare, and DESFire card readers with standalone or networked door controllers, access levels by time zone and area, real-time door monitoring, and audit trail reporting. Scalable from a single door to hundreds of access points across a multi-building campus under one management platform.
HID Mifare DESFire Networked
Biometric Access Systems
Fingerprint, finger vein, iris, and facial recognition readers for high-security access points where card-based credentials are insufficient — eliminating the risk of lost, stolen, or shared cards. Deployed at data centre access, server rooms, government secure areas, pharmaceutical cleanrooms, treasury and vault access, and any boundary where credential ownership must be tied to the physical person, not a transferable card.
Fingerprint Iris Face Recognition Multi-Factor
Mobile Credentials & Smart Entry
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and NFC smartphone credentials — issuing access rights to users' own devices rather than physical cards, eliminating card management overhead and enabling remote provisioning and revocation. Supported by HID Mobile Access, Allegion ENGAGE, and Assa Abloy Mobile Keys platforms. Touchless entry capability for hospitality, premium office, and healthcare environments where hygiene and user experience are priorities.
BLE NFC HID Mobile Touchless
Vehicle Access & Barrier Control
Automatic vehicle access management — ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) barriers for whitelist-based vehicle entry, UHF long-range RFID readers for hands-free vehicle access at car park entrances, boom gates, road blockers, rising bollards, and security barriers. Integration with CCTV for vehicle logging and with visitor management for pre-registered vehicle access. Car park management with space availability monitoring and guidance systems.
ANPR UHF RFID Boom Gate Bollards
Visitor Management Systems
Digital visitor registration, pre-registration by hosts, ID scanning, badge printing, watch-list screening, and temporary access credential issuance — replacing paper visitor books with an auditable, searchable visitor record. Integration with access control for automatic temporary credential issuance and expiry, and with CCTV for visitor photo capture at reception. Touchscreen self-check-in kiosks for lobby environments with high visitor volumes.
Digital Registration Badge Printing Watch-List Kiosk
Enterprise & Multi-Site Platforms
Enterprise access control platforms for organisations requiring centralised management of access rights across multiple buildings, campuses, or countries — Lenel OnGuard, Genetec Security Centre, Honeywell Pro-Watch, Gallagher Command Centre, and Paxton Net2 Enterprise. Centralised user database, role-based access profiles, multi-site reporting, HR system integration for automatic provisioning and de-provisioning, and full PSIM integration for unified security operations.
Lenel Genetec Gallagher PSIM
Access Control Integrated With CCTV, Fire Alarm & BMS — One Low Current Team
The security value of access control is multiplied when it operates as part of an integrated security platform. Door forced alarms trigger CCTV recording and display at the operator station. Fire alarm activations automatically release fire exit doors. Access denied events generate CCTV-linked alerts. BMS integration controls HVAC zones based on occupancy from access data. Virtual Bridge delivers access control, CCTV, fire alarm, and BMS integration under the same low current contracting team — designed and commissioned as one system, not bolted together after installation by separate subcontractors.
Credential Technology

Choosing the right credential for every access point.

Not every access point requires the same credential technology. Virtual Bridge advises on credential selection based on the security requirement, user convenience priorities, and budget of each access zone — ensuring the right technology is specified at every door.

Credential Type Security Level User Convenience Lost/Stolen Risk Best For
Proximity Card ~ Standard High — tap and go ~ Transferable General office, retail, hospitality
Smart Card (DESFire) High — encrypted High — tap and go ~ Transferable Government, corporate, healthcare
PIN Code ~ Medium ~ Medium — memorisation No physical credential Secondary factor, low-traffic doors
Card + PIN (2FA) High — dual factor ~ Medium Card alone insufficient Server rooms, secure areas, pharmacies
Mobile (BLE/NFC) High — device-bound Very high — smartphone Remote revocation Premium office, hotel, touchless
Fingerprint Very high — inherent High — no credential Cannot be transferred Data centres, cleanrooms, high security
Face Recognition Very high — inherent Very high — hands-free Cannot be transferred High-traffic entrances, government
ANPR (Vehicle) High — plate matched Very high — automatic ~ Clone risk exists Car parks, compound gates, logistics
Multi-Factor Authentication — The Right Response to High-Security Access Requirements
A single credential (card only, PIN only, or fingerprint only) provides a single layer of verification. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) — requiring two or more credential types simultaneously — significantly raises the barrier to unauthorised access. Virtual Bridge designs MFA configurations appropriate to the security level of each zone: card + PIN for secure areas, card + fingerprint for high-security boundaries, and face recognition + PIN for the most sensitive access points. The overhead to the authorised user is minimal. The security uplift is significant.
How We Deliver

Security assessment to commissioned system — one team.

Virtual Bridge manages the complete access control system lifecycle — from physical security risk assessment and door schedule design through hardware procurement, cable installation, controller and reader installation, software configuration, access level programming, system integration testing, user database loading, operator training, and handover documentation.

Access control works are directly coordinated with Virtual Bridge's CCTV team (camera-to-door event integration), fire alarm team (fire release of exit doors on alarm), electrical team (power to door hardware, maglocks, and controller panels), and BMS team (occupancy-based HVAC control from access data) — under a single low current contracting agreement.

Door Hardware Is Part of the Access Control System
An access control system is only as reliable as the door hardware it controls. Electric strikes, magnetic locks, door closers, request-to-exit (REX) sensors, door position switches (DPS), and cable management at the door frame are all critical to reliable operation. Virtual Bridge specifies and installs the complete door hardware assembly — not just the card reader — ensuring the access control system performs correctly at every access point.

Why Virtual Bridge

Designed for security. Integrated for operations. Delivered complete.

Virtual Bridge delivers access control not as standalone door hardware but as integrated security systems — designed from a physical security assessment, installed with the complete door hardware assembly, commissioned with full software configuration and user programming, and integrated with CCTV, fire alarm, and BMS under one low current contracting team.

Risk-Based System Design
Every access control system is designed from a physical security risk assessment — identifying access zones, security levels, and credential requirements before hardware is specified. Security is designed in, not bolted on.
True System Integration
Access control integrated with CCTV, fire alarm, and BMS under the same contracting team — designed, installed, and commissioned as one unified security system, not configured post-installation between separate subcontractors.
Complete Door Hardware
Electric strikes, magnetic locks, closers, REX sensors, and door position switches are included in the VB scope — not left to a separate door contractor to install independently of the access control system.
Airport & Port Track Record
SITA preferred subcontractor with proven airport access control delivery across Africa and the GCC — including airside boundary management, ISPS-compliant port security, and government facility access at the most demanding security classifications.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — it matters significantly in terms of security. A proximity card (125 kHz) transmits a fixed, unencrypted ID number that can be read and cloned by a commercially available device costing under $50. Anyone who can briefly bring a cloning device near a user's proximity card — in a crowded lift, at a reception desk, or in a car park — can copy the credential and replicate it on a blank card to gain access. A smart card (13.56 MHz, Mifare DESFire or HID iClass SE) uses encrypted, mutually authenticated communication between the card and reader — making cloning significantly more difficult and expensive. For any installation where access control genuinely matters for security (rather than just door management), Virtual Bridge specifies 13.56 MHz encrypted smart card technology as the minimum baseline, and advises upgrading legacy proximity card systems where they are identified during the security assessment.
During a fire alarm activation, all fire exit doors must release automatically to allow unobstructed evacuation — this is a legal and life-safety requirement in all GCC jurisdictions. Virtual Bridge integrates the access control system with the fire alarm panel so that electromagnetic locks on fire exit doors release automatically on fire alarm activation. The fail-safe configuration of fire exit door hardware is critical: fail-safe magnetic locks lose power (and therefore release) when the fire alarm activates or when the building loses mains power, ensuring the door can always be opened for evacuation. Fail-secure electric strikes (which remain locked on power loss) must not be used on fire exit doors. Virtual Bridge designs the door hardware specification for each door based on its function — ensuring fire exit doors are always fail-safe and never prevent evacuation.
Virtual Bridge delivers access control and CCTV as one integrated system under the same contracting team. The integration is configured so that: when a door forced alarm occurs, the nearest CCTV camera automatically displays on the operator's screen and begins event recording; when access is denied at a reader (incorrect card, outside permitted hours, or blacklisted credential), the associated camera is called up for operator review; and when a tailgate event is detected, both the access control alarm and the camera footage are simultaneously available to the operator. The result is that the operator has immediate visual context for every access control alarm — dramatically improving the speed and accuracy of security response compared to systems where access control alarms and CCTV monitoring are managed on separate, unlinked platforms.
Yes. HR system integration for automatic user provisioning and de-provisioning is available on enterprise access control platforms including Lenel OnGuard, Genetec Security Centre, and Gallagher Command Centre. When an employee joins and their record is created in the HR system, their access control profile is automatically created with the appropriate access levels for their role and department. When they leave and their HR record is terminated, all access rights are automatically revoked — eliminating the manual process (and the security risk of manual process failures) that results in former employees retaining active access credentials after their departure. The integration is typically via REST API, LDAP/Active Directory synchronisation, or flat file import depending on the HR system and access control platform. Virtual Bridge configures and tests the integration as part of the system commissioning scope.
Anti-passback is an access control rule that prevents a cardholder from re-entering an area using the same credential without first exiting. It is enforced by requiring a valid exit read before the same card can be used for re-entry — preventing a scenario where one person badges in and then passes their card back through the door for a second person to use. Hard anti-passback immediately denies access on a passback violation. Soft anti-passback logs the violation but allows access. Timed anti-passback resets the cardholder's status after a defined period. Anti-passback should be specified at any access point where tailgating is a security risk and where it is practical to ensure that every exit is also card-read — typically at car park barriers, building perimeter entry points, and controlled area access points where the number of entry and exit paths is limited. Virtual Bridge configures anti-passback zones as part of the access control software setup during commissioning.
Yes. Virtual Bridge provides planned preventive maintenance (PPM) contracts for installed access control systems — including reader and controller hardware inspection, door hardware (strike, maglock, closer, REX) functional testing, software database backup and integrity check, software and firmware update review, access level audit (identifying dormant or expired credentials), and alarm point functional test. PPM frequencies are typically quarterly or biannual depending on system criticality. Software licence renewal management, reactive call-out for hardware or software faults, system expansion (adding new doors or users), and user management support (access level changes, new card enrolment) are also available under maintenance agreements across all Virtual Bridge territories.
